Lowell Man Charged After Burglary Of Construction Sites

The Winfield Police Department announced the arrest of Dustin W. Fredericksen of Lowell in connection with a burglary that took place on Friday, October 4, 2024. Fredericksen has been charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief following an investigation.

At approximately 7:10 PM on October 4, 2024, Winfield Police responded to a report of a male suspect fleeing the scene of a burglary at a residence on Abigail Drive, located in the newly developed Aylesworth subdivision, according to Winfield Police. The suspect, later identified as Fredericksen, was spotted by an off-duty Hobart Police Department officer who reported observing Fredericksen exiting the residence.

Officers from multiple agencies tracked down Fredericksen, who fled the scene in a blue Hyundai bearing Illinois registration. A felony stop was initiated, and Fredericksen was taken into custody without incident in Crown Point. After his arrest, Fredericksen waived his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with Winfield’s investigator, though his statements raised suspicion.

A search of Fredericksen’s vehicle uncovered multiple spools of wire, a box of unopened wire, and wire cutters, items commonly targeted in construction site burglaries. Further investigation of the residence on Abigail Drive revealed damage to copper piping and cut wires, consistent with the theft of construction materials.

Fredericksen, who has a prior felony conviction for attempted armed robbery, was also found to have been trespassed from all Lennar Properties construction sites earlier this year. During the search warrant executed on Fredericksen’s vehicle, additional tools and materials were recovered, linking him to the theft.

Fredericksen has been charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Burglary (Level 5 Felony)
  • Count 2: Theft (Level 6 Felony)
  • Count 3: Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor)

Police are continuing to search for an unidentified female who was seen with Fredricksen at the scene at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on this incident or similar incidents in the area are urged to contact Det. Cpl. Jordan Billups at jbtaylor@winfield.in.gov
