Man Arrested For Child Molestation Charges
On February 7, 2020, Deputy Corey Chavez was summoned to a rural Noble Township residence, regarding an unwanted guest. After arriving, he was informed that a sex offense had just occurred. Initial information that was provided to him, identified David POWERS II (48 YOA), as the accused.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division were contacted and immediately began to provide their assistance. The case was assigned to Detective Gabe Struss.
Detective Struss prepared and presented his findings and information to La Porte County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Julianne Havens. Yesterday (02/20/2020), La Porte County Circuit Court found probable cause in the matter and issued an arrest warrant for POWERS. Last night, members of the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team (FAST) located and arrested POWERS.
Following his arrest, POWERS was transported to the La Porte County Jail (LCJ). POWERS has been charged with two (2) counts of Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony) and two (2) counts of Child Molesting (Level 4 Felony). POWERS remains housed in the LCJ and is being held on a $100,005.00 cash-only bond through Circuit Court.
Detective James Lear, Detective Sergeant Adam Hannon, officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, employees of Dunebrook Child Advocacy Center and employees of the Indiana Department of Child Services assisted in the investigation.
