Man Charged After Alleged Threats to Officer During Walmart Trespassing Arrest
A Merrillville man is facing multiple charges after police say he trespassed at a local Walmart, resisted arrest, and made violent threats and sexually explicit remarks toward officers during transport to jail.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched to the Walmart on East 79th Avenue in Hobart around 6:39 p.m. on July 3, 2025, after store security reported a known trespassed individual on the property. Officers located a blue BMW SUV matching the description and identified the driver as 34-year-old Terrell Troy Hampton.
When officers approached, Hampton allegedly refused verbal commands to exit the vehicle and forcefully shut the driver-side door in an attempt to block officers. Police say they had to physically remove Hampton from the SUV and detain him. A prior trespass warning was confirmed through department records, forbidding Hampton from being on Walmart property.
While being escorted to a patrol vehicle, Hampton reportedly attempted to resist by digging his feet into the ground and later refused to enter the backseat, requiring officers to force him inside.
During transport, Hampton allegedly began making sexually degrading comments to the officer and threatened to assault him, stating, “I will beat the f**king shit out of you” and “I’ll stick a broom stick up your ass.” He also allegedly stated he would perform oral sex in return for being released from police custody.
Charges were filed on July 5, 2025.
Terrell Troy Hampton is charged with:
• Intimidation on Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony)
• Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor)
• Criminal Trespass (Class A Misdemeanor)
He is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
