Man Charged in Robbery and Failure to Return to Community Corrections

Corie Martell Ryan, 35, is facing two felony cases in Lake County; one for a gas station robbery and another for failing to return to Lake County Community Corrections. Ryan also has a prior conviction for robbery.

Ryan was charged on June 9, 2025, in connection with a robbery on May 27, 2025, at a gas station in the 5600 block of Hohman Avenue in Hammond.

According to court documents, a male entered the store around 9:33 p.m. and stated, “It’s a robbery.” He told employees, “Move or press the red button if you want to and watch what I do to you,” while keeping one hand in his pocket as if armed. He directed the employees to place cash from the registers into a bag, then told them, “Y’all better wait 10 minutes to call the police after I leave.”

Police reviewed surveillance video and still images, and Ryan was identified as the suspect based on prior contacts.

Ryan was charged on June 9, 2025, with:

  • Level 5 Felony – Robbery (two counts)

In a separate case filed May 29, 2025, court documents state that Ryan, who was participating in the Lake County Community Corrections Community Transition Court Program, failed to return to lawful detention after being transported to a local hospital on May 23, 2025. He left the facility without authorization and had not returned by the time charges were filed. A petition for expulsion cited his “total disregard” for program rules.

He was charged on May 29, 2025, with:

  • Level 6 Felony – Failure to Return to Lawful Detention

Court records show that Ryan was previously convicted in a 2023 case involving an armed robbery. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced in October 2024 in Lake Superior Court, Criminal Division 1.

Ryan is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
