Man Found With Drugs In A Hidden Box Under Car
Eddy Del Socorro Amador-Gonzalez, 35, was arrested following a traffic stop in Hammond on December 12, 2025, after officers reported locating 27.8 grams of suspected heroin concealed in a magnetic box beneath his vehicle, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in Lake County.
The traffic stop occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. after officers observed a red Mitsubishi traveling northbound in the 4300 block of Hohman Avenue at approximately 42 miles per hour in a posted 35 mile per hour zone. The vehicle was also reported to be displaying a Georgia temporary license plate that appeared false and fictitious and did not contain an expiration date. The vehicle was stopped in the 4100 block of Hohman Avenue.
The driver and only occupant was identified through his own admission as Amador-Gonzalez. Officers reported he did not speak English and did not possess a driver’s license or identification. A Spanish-speaking officer responded to assist, and attempts to run a driver’s license check returned negative results. Dispatch was also unable to run the temporary license plate, which was confirmed to be fictitious.
Amador-Gonzalez appeared nervous and denied having any weapons or narcotics in the vehicle. Officers then requested consent to search the vehicle, which was granted. During the search, officers located a black magnetic box affixed to the underside of the vehicle. Inside the box was a knotted plastic bag containing a brown rock-like and powdery substance suspected to be heroin.
Amador-Gonzalez was taken into custody and transported to the Hammond City Jail for booking, while the vehicle was impounded. The substance had a total gross weight of 27.8 grams and tested positive for the presence of suspected heroin. The suspected heroin was inventoried into evidence pending transfer to the Indiana State Police Laboratory.
Following his arrest, Amador-Gonzalez agreed to speak with investigators after waiving his Miranda rights. He denied any knowledge of the suspected heroin located in the magnetic box and stated he was on his way to work before being stopped. He told investigators he was born in Nicaragua and used a “coyote” to travel closer to the United States border near Texas, where he was then able to receive “Asylum” and enter the United States. He further stated he had been living in the United States for approximately four years.
Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
