Man Shot By NICTD Police At Hegewisch South Shore Station

NICTD Police Officer shot a 33 year old man at the Hegewisch South Shore Train Station Thursday morning around 8:15 AM, RNS has confirmed. The incident involved train #114 according to South Shore President Michael Noland.

The offender now identified as 33-year-old Alfredo Alanis, was on train 114 when he became verbally aggressive toward a ticket collector and conductor, Chicago Police told RNS. The conductor requested assistance from a Northern Indiana Commuter Transportion District Transit Police Officer. While attempting to remove the offender, he became physically aggressive and a struggle ensued, resulting in the officer discharching his weapon, Chicago Police stated.

The offender sustained a gunshot wound in the stomach and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital. The transit officer was also taken to an area hospital for injuries to the face.
