Mayor & City Employee Receive Threat Prompting Police To Make Arrest
On Thursday, March 31, 2022, around 1:35 PM, Lake Station Mayor Bill Carroll received a phone threat from a known subject stating, “This is the mayor right, I am on my way up there to shoot you with my shotgun.” The threatening call prompted Carroll to lock down City Hall for safety.
Another city employee stated that a male subject known to him had also just called him saying he would go to City Hall and kill him. Both Carroll and the city employee contacted Lake Station Police Chief James Richardson immediately.
Richardson knew the male suspect was a viable threat from previous a incidents. Richardson knowing the suspect was able to locate the suspect vehicle at his last known residence. Patrol Officers & Richardson observed the male suspect getting into his vehicle and placed him into custody without incident. The male suspect was lodged at the Lake County Jail pending further investigation.
The suspects home was condemned by Lake County on 03/30/2022, Richardson stated. It is believed at this time the threats were made because of this issue. The suspect has previously been charged with battery on officials and law enforcement in 2015 & 2017. Check back for updates and charges to be released.
