Merrillville Car Fires Overnight
Merrillville Fire Department responded to a group of cars burning at The Lakes 8201 Apartment Complex last night around 3:30AM according to Merrillville Fire Chief Ed Yerga. A total of 8 vehicles were burned and damaged, Yerga said. Social Media videos and rumors were flying Tuesday as people stepped outside and said it looked as if a bomb went off, however Yerga believes the fire spread from one vehicle not an explosion of any kind. Neighbors in the area speculated about fireworks Tuesday afternoon. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Merrillville Police did not respond to inquires Tuesday.
