Merrillville Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Alleged Brutal Domestic Attack

A 43-year-old Merrillville man is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, after police say he severely beat a woman during a violent domestic incident.

According to court documents, Shawn Steven Page, 43, of Merrillville, is charged in connection with an incident that occurred on March 14, 2026, in Lake County.

Police were dispatched to Methodist Northlake Hospital where a woman was receiving medical treatment, including a CT scan, X-rays, and blood work, following an alleged attack. Investigators were told that Page had beaten the victim, leaving her with serious injuries.

The victim reported suffering two orbital fractures, bruising to her chest, arms, hand, and face, as well as muscle damage to her hand. She also reported difficulty seeing out of her right eye and was advised she would need to see a face surgeon and eye doctor.

According to court documents, the incident began after the group had been at a bar earlier that night. After leaving, the victim was driving with Page seated in the backseat when they stopped in a movie theater parking lot in Hobart.

While parked, the victim reported that Page suddenly began striking her multiple times in the head and body with a closed fist while stating, “I could kill you” and “I will kill you.”

The victim told police she believed she was going to be killed.

After the initial attack, the victim was forced to drive back to a hotel in Merrillville. Once there, Page allegedly continued the assault for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, repeatedly punching her and pulling her hair back to expose her face while continuing to threaten to kill her.

Court documents state Page also kicked the victim from behind while she was in the vehicle, striking the back of her head multiple times and causing damage inside the vehicle, including breaking the headrest, damaging the radio screen, rearview mirror, and denting doors. Blood was reportedly observed throughout the vehicle.

The vehicle damage was estimated at approximately $10,000.

Investigators also learned that the suspect had allegedly been violent in the past. A second victim reported a prior incident where her arm had been broken, and both victims indicated ongoing violence and threats.

During the investigation, Page was located at a gas station and taken into custody. He reportedly told police he has an alcohol problem, stated he often becomes violent when drinking, and said he “probably did do it,” although he claimed he blacked out and could not remember the incident.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
