Merrillville Man Charged With Child Molesting And Incest Felonies
Michael A. Mirin, 68, of Merrillville, is charged in Lake County,in connection with allegations he sexually abused his juvenile granddaughter over a period of nearly two years, according to court documents.
According to a probable cause affidavit, police began investigating Jan. 13, 2026, after a juvenile reported witnessing Mirin touch the victim inappropriately inside a residence. The victim told officers her grandfather had touched her private area, and Mirin was taken into custody.
Investigators said Mirin later admitted to touching the child inappropriately.
During a forensic interview, the victim reported ongoing sexual abuse beginning when she was 11 and occurring almost every day between February 2024 and January 2026, including incidents at Mirin’s residence in the 7500 block of Independence Street in Merrillville. She also reported Mirin photographed her nude and showed her sexually explicit material, court documents state.
Investigators confirmed the victim was under age 14. The case was filed Feb. 20, 2026, and remains pending in Lake County court.
Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
