Meth House Discovered While Serving Warrant

On Thursday, 1/16/25, at approximately 12:43 AM, Portage Officers responded to 673 Camelot Manor to serve an arrest warrant on an individual, according to police reports.

Upon arrival officers made contact with a male at the front door now identified as Steven Cooper, 65, of Portage. Steven advised officers the subject wanted no longer resided there.

Officers checked the residence to be certain and found no other occupants. While inside during the check of the residence, several glass smoking pipes, a scale with residue, a box of new mini-Ziploc baggies, a large clear Ziploc containing a white crystallized powder, and a black plate containing a white powder, were all located in plain view on the kitchen counter, according to the report. Also located in plain view were 20 orange pills in an unmarked clear bag inside an open blue tote bag on the counter, which were confirmed to be amphetamine/dextroamphetamine, a Schedule Il controlled substance. With the plain view items located, Steven was advised he was under arrest.

Before leaving, Steven requested officers retrieve his wallet and cellphone from his
bedroom. Officers located Steven’s cellphone lying on his bed and the wallet in the back right pocket of a pair of jeans lying on a dresser. Next to the jeans was another Ziploc bag containing a white crystallized powder.

Steven’s wallet contained $810.00 cash (3- $100s, 2- $50s, 1- $10s, 20- $5s), which was collected as evidence as well as his cellphone. An officer stayed at the residence to keep it secure while police applied for a search warrant.

Ziploc bags were tested using field test kits, all showing positive for methamphetamine. The bag located on the kitchen counter weighed 36 grams, the bag from the bedroom weighed 28 grams, totaling 64 grams.

While executing the search warrant several more glass smoking pipes were located across the home. There were four pipes located in a cigar box on top of Steven’s bedroom dresser and seven more were located in a wooden box on top of another dresser next to his bed. There was also a scale located in the bottom right drawer of Steven’s dresser. An additional $80.00 in the form of four twenty dollar bills was located on the same shelf as the above mention scale. A firearm, German Sports Guns 1911 handgun was also found. The firearm was collected as evidence and contained a magazine with ten rounds. In the top two drawers next to the kitchen sink, four pipes and two more scales were located.

Steven R. Cooper was charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine (LvI. 4), Possession of a Firearm by Serious Violent Felon (Lvi. 4), Possession of Methamphetamine (Lvl. 6), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Lvl. 6), and Possession of Paraphernalia (C-Mis).
