Michigan City Man Charged With Dealing and Firearm Offenses Following SWAT Raid
Michigan City- A Michigan City man identified as Jesse Arthur Mitchell,was charged after a SWAT-assisted search warrant at an apartment in the 1100 block of Franklin Street resulted in the recovery of suspected controlled substances and two firearms, according to a probable cause affidavit filed October 28, 2025.
Detectives with the LaPorte County Drug Task Force and Michigan City Police Department SWAT executed the search warrant on the morning of October 28. SWAT knocked and announced their presence before entering the residence. Mitchell was located in the kitchen area and taken into custody. A woman was also escorted from the apartment.
During the search, detectives reported locating:
• Item #1: A black 9mm Highpoint pistol with multiple rounds of ammunition
• Item #2: A silver Raven Arms MP-25 Auto with multiple rounds of ammunition
• Item #3: Multiple individually tied bags of a green, leafy substance on the kitchen table
The suspected substance weighed 57 grams and field tested positive for 2C-I, according to court documents.
Mitchell spoke with detectives after signing a rights waiver and admitted to selling “tune” (synthetic marijuana) but denied selling other substances. He told detectives he purchased the firearms for protection because he had previously been robbed and beaten with a wrench. He also stated some of the cash located in the apartment came from selling synthetic marijuana and noted he was unemployed.
Court documents state Mitchell is a serious violent felon due to a 2012 conviction for strangulation and that he “knowingly and intentionally” possessed the suspected controlled substance with intent to deliver, along with the two firearms.

• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon — Level 4 Felony — Count II
• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon — Level 4 Felony — Count III
