
Michigan City Police Investigating Double Homicide; Juvenile Suspect in Custody
MICHIGAN CITY — A juvenile is in custody following a double homicide investigation in Michigan City early Sunday morning, according to the Michigan City Police Department.
Around 1:11 a.m., LaPorte County dispatch received a 911 call for a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Johnson Road and County Road West 300 North in LaPorte. Deputies from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered that a juvenile involved in the crash was suspected of committing a double homicide at a nearby residence in Michigan City.
Sheriff’s deputies immediately notified Michigan City Police, who responded to a home in the 100 block of Schofield Court for a welfare check. Officers arriving at the scene located two deceased adults inside the residence.
Detectives from the Michigan City Police Investigative Division were called to the scene and have since taken over the investigation. Based on evidence collected, authorities have confirmed the case is being investigated as a double homicide.
The juvenile suspect has been detained, and criminal charges are pending. Police have not released the identities of the suspect or the victims at this time, citing the ongoing investigation and the involvement of a minor.
Officials stressed that this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community.
Multiple agencies assisted, including the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, LaPorte County EMS, Center Township Volunteer Fire Department, Michigan City Fire Department, LaPorte County Coroner’s Office, and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
