Michigan City Resident Accused Of Murder Following Early-Morning Shooting
Michigan City— A 47-year-old Michigan City man is facing murder and multiple felony charges after police say he shot another man inside a Franklin Street residence earlier this month, then fled the scene on a bicycle.
According to court documents, Michigan City Police were dispatched around 4:48 a.m. on September 3, 2025, to a residence in the 1300 block of Franklin Street after reports of a man being shot. When officers arrived, they found a male victim lying on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his forehead. Officers applied a pressure bandage and assisted paramedics as the man was transported for treatment, but he later died from his injuries.
Individuals at the scene told investigators they heard arguing inside the home before a single gunshot was fired. One man reported he saw the shooter standing over the victim with a gun concealed in a sock and heard him say, “I told you not to [mess] with my family.” He later identified the shooter as Tommy A. Hodges Jr., also known as “Ski.” Another person told detectives that Hodges and the victim had been arguing over money and that Hodges struck the man with a gun before it went off. Both said they ran from the house in fear after the shot was fired.
Surveillance video gathered from nearby cameras showed a man on a bicycle in the area around the time of the shooting. Detectives said the footage captured a male wearing dark clothing and a beanie-style hat leaving the alley behind the residence shortly before officers arrived. Additional footage showed Hodges in the area prior to the shooting and then leaving in the direction of his residence on Ohio Street, where he was later located during a search warrant.
Investigators also spoke with a neighbor who said she saw the victim being chased on his bike by a man with long dreadlocks and glasses earlier that morning. The neighbor described the man as tall, wearing a dark jacket and beanie, and later identified him as Hodges.
Court filings also note that Hodges has a prior felony conviction for dealing cocaine in 2012, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
Charges filed September 29,2025:
• Murder (felony) — for knowingly or intentionally killing another person
• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 felony) — due to his prior felony conviction
