Michigan Woman Arrested in Porter County After Stolen Vehicle Stop on I-80

Portage- A Hazel Park, Michigan woman has been formally charged in Porter County after police say she was stopped in a stolen vehicle on Interstate 80 and found in possession of marijuana.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Sophia Annastasia Jones, 43, was arrested in Porter County on October 2, 2025 around 12:50 a.m. after a license plate reader (LPR) alert flagged the vehicle she was driving as stolen. Officers confirmed the vehicle remained actively listed as stolen before initiating a traffic stop on WB I-80 in Portage.

Court documents state Jones presented a vehicle title that appeared forged and incomplete. She allegedly claimed the owner had signed the vehicle over to her, but she refused to provide any phone number to confirm her statement .

During the stop, officers also discovered a green leafy substance in the vehicle’s center console. The substance field-tested positive for marijuana .

Charges filed October 2,2025:

    •    Auto Theft – Level F6 

    •    Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor 

Jones is currently lodged in the Porter County Jail.
