Mother & Son Arrested In Drug Seizure At Dyer Home

“An eight-month investigation by the Lake County Drug Task Force has netted a large quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia including cocaine, marijuana and edible products containing THC, the main psychoactive compound extracted from cannabis plants,” said Sheriff Oscar Martinez, Jr. “Lake County Drug Task Force officers located the drugs less than a mile away from an elementary school,” Sheriff Martinez said.

On February 11, 2020, Lake County Drug Task Force officers executed a search warrant at 8251 Columbia Avenue in unincorporated Dyer, Indiana. Residents 19-year-old Angelos Lujano and his mother, 35-year-old Irene Botello each face several criminal charges including a level 2 felony count for allegedly dealing pure THC extract.
This investigation led detectives to believe that the suspects were involved with the distribution of high grade marijuana and also edibles infused with THC; plus a wax, made of unadulterated THC extracted from cannabis plants. Officers also confiscated several bottles of THC-infused syrup. This search warrant also yielded solid bricks of breakfast cereal laced with THC. Detectives were able track some of the products from neighboring states where marijuana has been legalized. In addition, officers confiscated baggies of cocaine.

United States currency found inside vacuum-sealed bags was also seized from the residence. “The way this cash was packaged is similar to what our agency has seen with currency seized during drug trafficking investigations,” said Lake County Drug Task Force Commander Alfred Villarreal.

“Many of the products officers found in this case were labeled with stickers suggesting that they were to be sold in other states to patients medically certified to receive them.” said Sheriff Martinez. “Items like these are supposed to be prescribed and regulated; however, they end up in the hands of people who would sell them in Lake County in violation of Indiana law.”

“Among the products confiscated were many bearing names and/or flavors that children might find attractive or desirable,” the sheriff said. “I commend members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force for their dedication to removing illegal drugs from Lake County neighborhoods,” Sheriff Martinez added.

  1. Way To Go Lake County Drug Task Force! Thank you very much for getting these drugs and drug dealers off the streets. Hopefully they learn their lesson. Buying from these type of people is how people die. They clearly thing they are smarter than the average. I would never endorse or do drugs with anyone I care about. People want to eat crap and blame the system and take drugs and other garbage to pacificy themselves.
