Motorcyclist Dies After Two Bike Crash In St John
On 8/29/2025 at about 11:15 p.m., St. John Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in the area of Blaine St and W. 96th Pl, according to St. John Police.
On arrival, officers observed two motorcycles involved in a crash and one male driver unconscious in the roadway. Officers initiated life saving protocols but the driver/operator later died from his injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the two motorcycles were riding together, one behind the other and that the first motorcycle made an abrupt stop, the second motorcycle was unable to stop, losing control and striking the stopping motorcycle. The operator that succumbed to his injuries was operating the second motorcycle.
The Lake County Coroner identified the deceased rider as Raymond M. Colburn, 55, of Crown Point.
Early determinations are that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, St. John Police said. The Lake County Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash along with the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
