Munster Police Catch Car Burglar With Help From County
On Jan 6, 2021 at approximately 12:30 AM officers responded to the area of Timrick and Hohman reference a subject possibly stealing items from vehicles, according to Lt. John Peirick of The Munster Police.
One of the officers found a vehicle that matched the description, dark colored sedan, on Evergreen. The officer also observed a black male exiting the back of a white van and identified himself and told the male to stop, Peirick told RNS. The male quickly entered the dark sedan and as he was speeding away from the officer the vehicle or part of the vehicle struck the officer knocking him to the ground. At this point the officer called out the description and another officer located the vehicle and began to pursue the vehicle.
The pursuit went south into Dyer and then west into Illinois. Munster was assisted by both Dyer and Lake County in the pursuit. Lake County ultimately arrested the driver in Chicago near 65th. There were also multiple tools located in the vehicle which were taken from vehicles in Munster, Peirick added.
The Munster Officer sustained minor injuries. Munster will be presenting this case to the Lake County Prosecutors Office today for potential charges.
