Munster Police Investigating Robbery of Elderly Lady
On February 11, 2024, at approximately 12:30 PM, Munster Police were dispatched to Jewel, 716 Ridge Road in reference to a robbery.
Upon arrival, Munster Police Officers spoke with the victim, a 72-year-old female, who reported that while she was placing items in the trunk of her vehicle, another vehicle pulled up next to her and a subject exited the passenger side of the vehicle and ordered her to give him her purse.
The male then forcefully grabbed her purse and attempted to pull it from her. The victim
attempted to hold onto her purse, however, the male was able to use enough force to
break her grip. The male then entered the vehicle, which fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was tended to by paramedics and released from the scene.
The suspect was described as a black male early 20’s, shorter, wearing dark colored clothing. The Munster Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division identified the vehicle used in the incident, which was reported stolen on February 11, 2024, by the Gary Police Department.
The victim’s credit card was used in Dolton, Illinois shortly after the incident. Her purse and cell phone were also located at a gas station in Calumet City, Illinois.
