Munster Strack’s Announces Extra Steps After Two Employee’s Test Positive

Strack & Van Til Munster recently was made aware of two employees that tested positive for COVID-19. RNS reached out to the store after learning this to dispel any social media rumors that have started. We spoke with Michael Tyson Saturday morning who assured us all precautions are and have been taken.

Tyson told RNS, the safety of our customers and associates is our top priority.  On April 3, 2020 we implemented daily health / temperature checks of all of our associates and this process would not allow an associate to work when they are sick.

Unfortunately, we have recently learned that two of our associates that work at our Munster Strack & Van Til were diagnosed with Covid-19. Both associates will be staying home for 14 days per the advice of their Doctor, Tyson stated. When the associates last worked, per our daily health / temperature process, they did not show any symptoms. “Once we received this information and as an overabundance of caution, we hired a professional cleaning crew that has thoroughly sanitized our store,” Tyson said.

“We have contacted the Local Health Department and will be following their suggested guidelines,” Tyson stated. “We believe that we have taken all of the appropriate steps pursuant to the guidance given by the Centers for Disease Control,” Tyson told RNS.

Additionally, we have taken numerous other steps to ensure the safety of our customers and associates to include but not limited to:

  • Increased cleaning of high touch areas like but not limited to, doors/handles, keypads, registers, restrooms, phones, offices and breakrooms
  • Provided masks to all associates and requiring that they wear them
  • Provided gloves and hand sanitizer to our associates
  • Installed plexiglass sneeze guards at the registers and customer service booth
  • Practicing active social distancing
    • Installed social distancing floor dots/markers
    • Implemented  a process to monitor/limit the number of customers in our stores
    • Asking our customers to limit the number of shoppers that accompany them per trip
    • Reducing the size of our weekly sales ad to decrease customer count in our stores
  • Suspended the use of outside reusable or recycled bags and suspending returns/refunds
  • Having an outside cleaning company pressure wash/sanitize shopping carts weekly (weather permitting)
  • Requiring associates not to come to work if they are not feeling well

As Strack & Van Til stores will be closed tomorrow, Easter Sunday, they have hired a professional cleaning company to thoroughly sanitize ALL of our store locations, including the Munster store. “Again, we believe that we have taken the appropriate steps to maintain the safety of our customers and associates,” Tyson stated.

  1. I would like to know if either of these employees worked at the service desk or the check out nearest to that desk at the Munster store. If so, I may have been exposed. I am high risk and need to know.
    Thank You,

      1. were these stockers or cashiers-I was in the store on Wed April 8th 2020 for senior hours-there were stockers but no masks or gloves not even on cashiers-please respond
