
Murder Charge Filed After Fatal Shooting in Gary Over Parking
A Gary man has been charged with murder following a deadly shooting that occurred during a dispute over parking.
Tyrisce Latreal Calhoun Jr., 26, was formally charged on August 2, 2025.
According to court documents, officers were called to the area of 17th Avenue and Pierce Street on August 1, 2025, where they located evidence of a shooting, including a bloodstain in the roadway and a spent .40 caliber shell casing. The victim was transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital, where he later died.
Witnesses reported that a confrontation began over parking on the public street, which escalated into a physical altercation. During the encounter, Calhoun allegedly pulled a handgun and shot the victim before fleeing between houses and into a wooded area.
Detectives later interviewed Calhoun, who admitted to being involved in the altercation. He stated he was struck during the argument and responded by firing a Glock .40 caliber pistol. He also directed investigators to an apartment in Gary, where the firearm was recovered inside a plastic bag on a shelf.
The victim was identified as David Foster, 38, of Gary by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Calhoun was charged on August 2, 2025, and is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail. A female subject is also in custody pending charges.
