New Squads Hitting The Streets This Week
Announced at the beginning of January by Gary Mayor Jerome Prince who said on a Tweet, 18 new Gary vehicles were added to city fleets, which included Explorers, Interceptors and F250’s. 13 of these will be going to Gary Police Officers starting this week. This was much needed to the department as some of the vehicles are over 10 years old with around 200k miles on them, these cars have seen better days to say the least.
The Mayor’s office told RNS, 8 Explorers and 5 Interceptors were set to hit the streets starting this week. Thursday one vehicle began its tour after being outfitted with lights and radios with another set to start Friday. The balance of the remaining cars should be ready within about ten days, staff told RNS. Another phase of purchasing will end with 54 new vehicles total.
