No Injuries In House Fire Tuesday In Highland
Around 10:34 PM, Tuesday, Highland Fire Department responded to a structure fire located in the 9300 block of Idlewild.
On arrival crews were met with flames and heavy smoke coming from a residential home. The residents of the home had already evacuated safely after a couple of 17-year-old boys saw the flames. At first the boys thought it was a bonfire but it got much bigger. The teens acted quickly making entry into the home to alert the family of 4. The teens screaming to anyone that could hear, get out the house it’s on fire, while another called 911. The boys got the mother and child out first then went back in for the dad and another child. Unfortunately there was no time with the size of the fire and smoke to save any belongings while evacuating, a friend of the family said.
Multiple other departments were called in to assist Highland due to the size of the structure and the winds. Strong winds fueled the fire causing it to spread much quicker than usual neighbors said. The home was a total loss but no injuries were reported from first responders or civilians.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but the State Fire Marshal did not rule out smoldering embers from a fire pit located on the back deck of the house with the added high winds being a contributing factor.
Munster and Griffith responded to the scene to aid Highland Firefighters while Lake Ridge covered Highland stations.
