Observant Neighbor Foils Burglary In Progress
On January 18, 2025 around 4:30 AM, Hammond Police responded to the 1100 block of Moss St in reference to a burglary in progress, according to charging documents.
A neighbor reportedly called 911 when they noticed a pick up truck backed up to a home where no one was supposed to be at. When officers arrived the saw a male standing next to the truck. Officers told the male to come here, but the male took off running. After a brief foot chase the male was found hiding under a porch down the street.
The suspect was in the process of loading a range stove, furnace, and water heater all taken from the vacant home that was under rehab. A woman was found in the passenger seat of the truck asleep as well.
The suspect was identified as Michael Williams Jr. of Hammond. Williams has been charged with Burglary a Level 5 Felony and Resisting Law Enforcement a Class A Misdemeanor. Also Williams was found to have multiple warrants out of Gary and East Chicago as well.
