One Dead After Crash In Hobart

On May 3, 2023 at approximately 3:00 PM three vehicles were traveling westbound on 37th Avenue approaching Northlake Park Avenue in Hobart. A vehicle attempted to pass 2 vehicles, by driving in between them, according to Hobart Police.

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed while attempting to pass the two vehicles, the speeding vehicle struck another vehicle and lost control and crashed into a traffic control light pole at 37th Ave. and North Lake Park.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pole was transported to St. Mary medical center and was subsequently pronounced deceased. One other person suffered injuries and was treated by EMS on scene.

The Lake County Coroner has identified the driver as Tyrone Ramirez, 64, of Hobart. Toxicology results are pending.

The South County Crash Reconstruction team responded to the crash site and have taken the investigation.

A preliminary contributing factor to this fatal crash was cited as excessive speed, by the crash investigator.

The exact cause of this crash is still under investigation.
