One Hammond Man Shot Outside Growler’s In Highland

Around 2:19am on Sunday, September 6th, Highland Police were dispatched to Growler’s Bar (2816 Highway Avenue) for a report of a shooting where gunshots were heard coming from the parking lot east of Growler’s, according to Commander John Banasiak of the Highland Police.

On arrival, officers observed a large crowd outside and eventually located a male Hispanic victim (34 years old, from Hammond, IN) who was in the alley behind Growler’s near the rear doorway. The victim was alert and conscious, Banasiak said. The victim confirmed he had been shot in his right arm and medical attention was requested and Superior Ambulance responded to treat the victim.

The victim advised he had arrived with another friend and a group of others who had all just left Shades of Time Bar in Griffith. The victim stated he had just exited a friend’s car in the parking lot east lot of Growler’s when he heard a male call out his name. The victim said he saw a male who was dressed in all black and holding a gun and then he was shot. The victim then ran to the entrance of Growler’s for help. The suspect was not located or identified at this time. The victim was transported by Superior Ambulance to Community Hospital for treatment.

The victim told investigators that at this time, he does not wish to pursue charges against any suspect. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. This matter is still under investigation by the Highland Police Department, Banasiak said.
