One Person Struck By Celebratory Gunfire Overnight
Despite many police departments warning of the dangers of celebratory gunfire during the holidays in Lake County, multiple calls of shots fired were received overnight across the area.
Around 1:06 AM a 54 year old male reported being struck by shrapnel which ended up being only a graze wound in the 6800 block of West 25th Avenue in Gary, according to Gary Police Commander Jack Hamady. The bullet was believed to have fallen from the sky after being shot. The male refused medical treatment and did not want to file a report.
One other male was shot overnight in Gary on Polk Street but his condition was not known Saturday. That shooting was not related to celebratory gunfire.
