One Shot In Hobart Drive By Early Saturday Morning In Their Home
On April 4, 2020 at approximately 5:30 AM, Hobart Police responded to dispatch call for shots fired in the area of 2500 East 62nd Place, a subsequent dispatch call advised there was a person who suffered a gunshot wound, according to Captain James Gonzales of The Hobart Police.
Officers responded and met with the victim who stated he was asleep when he heard several gunshots and realized he had been shot. The victim was transported by The Hobart Fire Department to St. Mary’s, Assistant Fire Chief John Reitz told RNS. The victim was subsequently transported to a Chicago area hospital for further treatment, Gonzales stated. He was listed in stable condition as of 11am. There were two witnesses in the residence at the time of the shooting and they are cooperating with the investigation, Police said.
Although the investigation is in its infancy, evidence so far reveals that the victim was targeted and this incident is isolated to that particular residence, Gonzales said.
Witnesses in the area said they saw a possible 4 door Ford sedan flee the scene after the shooting. Detectives are actively canvassing the area for additional evidence.
The Hobart Police Department wants the residents to know the investigation so far indicates that this was an isolated incident. We understand the criminal acts and actions of the suspect(s) involved did endanger other neighbors in the area and we are exhausting all of our resources to capture the suspect(s) involved. A crime like this is a rare occurrence in our community, and unfortunately our community is not immune from these types of incidents, Gonzales emphasized.
We are asking that the members of that community pull together and the Hobart Police Department encourages them to report any suspicious activity to us in their community in order to prevent this type of crime occurring in the future.
