Pair Charged With Burglary & Robbery

On Friday, December 12th, 2020 at approximately 03:24 P.M., the LaPorte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to a burglary in progress in the 400 block of East 7th Street in Michigan City, according to Michigan City Police.

Multiple officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 2 and a special Holiday Patrol assignment responded to the burglary and located two suspects descending a stairwell leading from the victim’s residence upon their arrival. Officers were able to identify both suspects as 27-year-old Michigan City resident Marlon Gladney Jr. and 41-year-old Michigan City resident Albert Sherrod.

Officers learned during their investigation that both suspects forced entry into the residence and engaged in a physical altercation the victim. A second person accompanying the victim inside the residence was able to call 911 for assistance. The victim sustained multiple lacerations, bruising and bleeding from the robbery. The victim refused medical treatment while on scene.

Responding officers processed the crime scene and conducted interviews with those involved in this incident. Evidence collected during this investigation led to the arrests of Gladney Jr. and Sherrod. Gladney Jr. was arrested for Robbery (Level 3 Felony), Burglary (Level 4 Felony) and Battery Causing Bodily Injury (A- Misdemeanor). Sherrod was arrested for Robbery (Level 3 Felony), Burglary (Level 4 Felony), Battery Causing Bodily Injury (A-Misdemeanor) and Criminal Trespass (A-Misdemeanor).

Both Gladney Jr. and Sherrod were issued no bond. It is believed that this incident was not a random act of violence. The objective of officers working a Holiday Patrol assignment is to focus on the safety of holiday shoppers and assist the Uniform Patrol Division with high priority calls for service.
