Park West Apartment Fire In Griffith
A fire broke out shortly before 4am Sunday morning at 1740 Dylane Dr at The Park West Apartment Complex in Griffith leaving dozens of residents displaced. Griffith Police tell Region News the Fire is believed to have started on the second floor and worked its way to the third floor within the first 30 minutes. As of 6am there is no reported injuries and Police & Fire were able to wake everyone up and get them to safety.
Tyler Wasick a resident said he woke up to very thick heavy smoke around 4am and was quickly evacuated. He was told the complex will be providing hotels for the first few nights for residents effected. Wasick said it’s hard because he was not able to grab his keys for his car, phone, and other essential items in time when he got out of the building. The Red Cross is currently on the way he told Region News as officers were escorting people to the near by clubhouse for shelter by golf cart.
Griffith Fire was assisted by Munster, Highland, Schererville, Merrillville, Lake Ridge, Gary, Lake Station, Dyer, Lake Hills, and East Chicago.

Update – Highland Fire Chief Bill Timmer told Region News there are about 32 units in the building with most having extensive smoke & water damage. One firefighter was injured but is resting at home in good condition, Timmer said. It’s believed he sprained his ankle sources said Sunday. Timmer said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
