Pistol Found On Inmate During Intake To Jail

On Tuesday, 7/20/2021, at approximately 6:24 p.m. Chesterton Police brought in arrestee, Rickea Thomas, of Hanover Park, Illinois, on a charge of Identity Deception (Level 6 Felony) to the Porter County Jail.  Through the intake process and use of the SOTER RS body scanner, a hidden, loaded .380 handgun was discovered, Porter County Sheriff Reynolds said.

Sheriff Reynolds said, “This is a huge credit to our Jail Staff for their diligence during the intake process and affirmation that the body scanner is a lifesaving tool.  The scanner was purchased in 2018 for $155,340 from federal inmate / inmate processing funds – this was at no cost to the taxpayers.  This machine was a needed tool and shows it was money well spent through potentially saving multiple lives.”
