Police Appreciation Day Highlight Video
Dozens of law enforcement officers converged in St John Thursday evening for the annual Police Appreciation Day parade.
Residents from across the area lined the streets with flags and signs in a show of support for their local officers. The parade featuring over 100 police cars, SWAT trucks, fire trucks, motorcycles, hot rods, and the Lake County Sheriff Helicopter made their way to the Halls of St. George in Schererville shortly after a name dedication at the new St John Community Center in honor of St John Detective Aaron Amptmeyer. A bronze plaque will be hung on the brick of the new building in honor of Amptmeyer.
The parade then proceeded to the Halls of St George where a ceremony was held honoring and thanking all police officers for their sacrifices. Tonight’s ceremony paid special tribute to Aaron’s family.
Organizer of the event Jeff Fryzel has watched this grow annually now for 11 years. Each year Fryzel honors a few local officers for many reasons. “This is one way myself and the community can show thanks to these men and women who protect us every day.”
