UPDATE –
On Sunday, March 1, 2020 a Portage officer spotted a White BMW with Illinois plates traveling northbound on Willowcreek matching the description of a vehicle that had recently been in a pursuit with the Porter County Sheriff’s office.
Due to a heavy amount of traffic, officers were unable to keep up with the vehicle. Officers searched the area for the vehicle. While looking, an officer came across a male walking in the road. The male now identified as 18 year old Rayshaun Sanders was stopped on Samuelson just south of Portage Ave. As the officer approached him, he began yelling that he was not going to jail and to leave him alone. As the officer attempted to place him in custody, he was aggressive and was pulling away from the officer.
While speaking with Sanders, there was a strong odor of marijuana. The officer asked if that is the reason why he ran and he confirmed that it was.
There was damage done to a front yard in the 6700 block of Portage Ave. This location is also where Sanders jumped a fence.
Mr. Sanders was transported to Porter County Jail and is being held on the following charges;
Class A Misdemeanor Resisting Law Enforcement
Class A Misdemeanor False Informing
Class B Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct
Class B Misdemeanor Reckless Driving
Level 6 Felony Resisting Law Enforcement. -A. Fenes
