Police Make A Gruesome Discovery After A Warrant Arrest In East Chicago
On January 30, 2024, at approximately 11:00 AM, East Chicago Gang and Narcotics Division, along with the Lake County Sheriff Warrant Division were in the area of 4000 Deal Street looking for a wanted subject, according to East Chicago Police.
Officers made contact with the wanted subject at 4021 Deal Street and took him into custody inside the residence. While inside the residence, officers smelled a strong and foul odor coming from the basement. They also observed a bed in the basement covered with clothes and maggots.
East Chicago Criminal Investigation Division was called out, as well as the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force. After securing a search warrant to further search the home, detectives discovered a deceased individual underneath a pile of clothes in the basement. The Lake County Sheriff Crime Scene Unit and Coroners Office were then called out to the scene. Two persons of interest were taken into custody and transported to the East Chicago Police Department Jail. The identity and cause of death of the deceased individual have not been determined.
