Portage Man Charged After Robbery Attempt at Gas Station
Porter County- Billy Ray Muston, 53, of Portage, has been charged after police say he attempted to take a woman’s vehicle during an incident at a local gas station.
According to court documents, on October 4, 2025, around 9:27 a.m., officers responded to a report at the Luke Gas Station in the 6200 block of U.S. Highway 20. Investigators say Muston approached a woman who was sitting in the driver’s seat of her white Cadillac and leaned into the vehicle, allegedly telling her, “Scoot over, don’t scream and give me your keys.”
The woman began screaming, drawing the attention of others nearby. Police say Muston then claimed that she appeared to be slipping from her seat and that he was trying to help her stay up.
