
Portage Man Charged with Attempted Murder in LaPorte County Shooting
A 72-year-old Portage man is facing felony charges after allegedly shooting another man during an incident inside a rural LaPorte County home.
According to court documents, LaPorte County deputies were dispatched around 9:42 p.m. on July 23, 2025, to a residence in the South County Road 1150 West area of Wanatah. A caller told dispatchers, “She is unknown why her dad started shooting,” and reported that the victim had been shot in the chest and back. The caller also stated the suspect has mental health issues.
Deputies arrived to find the victim lying near the front door of the residence with multiple bloodletting injuries. Despite his condition, the man was able to identify the shooter to officers.
A witness told investigators that she and the victim had returned to the home where the suspect, identified as Timothy C. Pochron, was present. While the couple was in a bedroom with the door open, Pochron reportedly stood in the doorway and said, “You waited too long,” before opening fire.
Investigators recovered a .38-caliber revolver at the scene containing four spent shell casings. A breath test administered to Pochron showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.09.
Pochron is currently lodged in the LaPorte County Jail.
