Portage Man Faces Multiple Charges Following Break-In Attempt
A 43-year-old Portage man has been charged after police say he attempted to break into a family member’s home, violated a no-contact order, and resisted officers who found him hiding in a garage.
According to court documents, charges were filed September 2, 2025, against Kristopher Alan Edmonds following an August 31 incident at a residence in the 3000 block of County Line Road in Portage .
Police reports state officers responded to a residential alarm just after 6:30 a.m. and found the back door had been opened, setting off the system. A Portage officer reported seeing a man inside the garage holding a bag, who then tried to push the door closed. The man, later identified as Edmonds, ignored repeated commands to surrender.
Officers attempted to force the door open and eventually deployed a police K9, which led them to discover Edmonds hiding in a hole in the northeast corner of the garage with a fan covering his upper body. Police said Edmonds resisted attempts to pull him out and had to be subdued before being placed under arrest .
During the struggle, an officer sustained an abrasion to his shin. Police also confirmed Edmonds was under an active no-contact order issued in February 2025 that barred him from being at the property. Officers noted Edmonds admitted he had opened the back door, which triggered the alarm .
