Prescribed Burn In Gary’s Miller Area Monday
Fire Managers at Indiana Dunes National Park will be conducting the 97-acre Miller 1 Prescribed Fire on Monday, March 22. The fire area is located in Gary’s Miller neighborhood, north of he the National Park’s Douglas Center for Environmental Education, and west of Lake Street.
Prescribed Fire in this area is used for natural resources restoration and hazardous fuels reduction.
Ignition is expected to start at 11am and continue into the afternoon. Trails in the area will be closed for visitor safety.
Should conditions be favorable, the 16-acre Miller 7 area immediately around the Douglas Center may also be burned.
