Pursuit Ends With Felony Charges Tuesday
Tuesday evening at 7:35 p.m., Trooper A. Hamed was operating radar on I-80/94 at the 1 mile-marker when he clocked a vehicle traveling at 105 m.p.h., according to Sgt. Glen Fifield of The Indiana State Police. The posted speed limit on that area of roadway is 55 m.p.h. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle, a black 2017 Chevrolet Impala, however the driver refused to stop which resulted in Trooper Hamed pursuing the suspect. The pursuit exited I-80 onto northbound Kennedy Ave. The suspect stopped his vehicle at the intersection of 149th and Olcott and fled on foot. Trooper Hamed also gave chase and eventually caught the suspect and took him into custody. During the foot chase, the suspect attempted to discard a large bag of suspected marijuana. Once in custody, a bag of white powder and a large amount of cash were located and taken into evidence.
The suspect was identified as David Latimer, 28, from Markham, IL. He was transported to the Lake County Jail for booking. He is preliminarily charged with the following:
- Dealing Cocaine- Level 3 Felony
- Dealing Marijuana Prior Conviction- Level 6 Felony
- Resisting Law Enforcement with Vehicle- Level 6 Felony
- Resisting Law Enforcement- Class A Misdemeanor
- Reckless Driving- Class A Misdemeanor
Assisting was the East Chicago Police Dept., Hammond Police Dept., Lake County Sheriff Aviation Division, and Troopers Payonk, Carlson and Brasseur.
All persons named in this release are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court. All charges mentioned are merely accusations, actual charges will be determined by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
