Pursuit Ends With Suspect Ramming Police & Shots Fired

On Friday, January 29th at 8:50 p.m., Indiana State Police engaged in a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 80, according to Indiana State Police.

The vehicle was observed traveling recklessly and the driver attempted to evade troopers when they attempted to initiate a traffic stop at the 2 mile marker, which is near Kennedy Avenue in Hammond.  The suspect fled eastbound on Interstate 80 and turned off all the lights on his vehicle in an attempt to evade the officers. Speeds reached 120 MPH as officers pursued the vehicle. The pursuit exited the interstate at the 10 mile marker, which is Broadway, and continued north into Gary, police said. Lake County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit and intercepted the suspect vehicle as it approached the intersection of  25th Avenue and Broadway.  Once he was prevented from proceeding forward the suspect put his vehicle, a 2020 black Chrysler 300, in reverse and rammed into the vehicle of a state trooper who had pulled up behind him.  He then put the vehicle back into drive and ran into the Lake County deputy ,who was blocking him, pushing the vehicle further into the intersection.  At that point both the Lake County deputy and two Indiana State troopers fired upon on the suspect vehicle, Police told RNS.  The suspect was taken into police custody at that time.    

He was transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.  He was medically cleared and transported to Lake County Jail at 11:24 p.m.  

The suspect was identified as Marcus Darius Mcabee, 31, of Gary, IN.  He is the registered owner of the vehicle.
