Railroad Safety Blitz Kicks Off This Week
This week multiple law enforcement agencies will be conducting a railroad safety blitz across the region. The goal of this blitz is to educate the public on the dangers of crossings as well as safe vehicle and pedestrian travels around the railroad.
Officers from The Indiana Harbor Belt, East Chicago, Hammond, Gary, Griffith, Lake County, Indiana State Police, NICTD, CSX, and CN will be watching for violations and performing safety enforcement across the area. The main goal of the operation is to make the public aware of the dangers of the railroad and the dangers of trespassing on railroad grounds. The State Police will also be conducting inspections of trucks during this period.
