Remains of Missing Woman Discovered By Portage Police in December
Portage Detectives began investigating the cold-case disappearance of Shannon Orton in the summer of 2023 after being contacted by the Hobart Police Department with new information, according to Portage Police.
Ms. Shannon Orton disappeared from the Cressmoor Mobile Home Park (Hobart, IN) in the summer of 2020. Ms. Orton was reported missing to police on September 30, 2020 but the reporting relative told police that she hadn’t seen Shannon since July 5, 2020 at her home.
On December 17, 2024, the Porter County Coroner’s Office was dispatched to a wooded area around Highway 249 and Highway 94 regarding human remains that had been found by the Portage Police Department. The remains were examined with x-rays and identified by dental records provided from the Portage Police Department as 41-year-old Shannon Orton. The Cause of Death is currently undetermined, according to the Porter County Coroner.
Portage Police are asking for assistance with any information citizens may have regarding the disappearance and death of Ms. Orton.
