Roundabout Capture By Task Force
“Roundabout capture” in South Holland near 165th & Cottage Grove after members of Lake County Task Force.
Last night, several St. John Officers were out participating in the Lake County Task Force patrols. At about 10:38 pm, a St. John officer spotted a black-colored Chevy Cruze traveling northbound on Calumet Ave. in Munster near Ridge Road. The vehicle was observed to have a broken taillight.
The officer attempted a traffic stop, but when he activated his lights, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued westbound on I80/94 at speeds over 100 mph.
The vehicle exited the highway at the Lincoln Oasis and traveled through the lot, exiting through the back exit, entering a neighborhood. Dyer PD, Lake County Sheriff and another St. John officer assisted in the pursuit.
The suspect vehicle crashed into a median at 166th and Cottage Grove. Two occupants bailed out of the vehicle and officers went on a foot pursuit. A Lake County Sheriff’s officer and a St. John officer found the driver hiding is a bush in the 700 Block of 164th in South Holland. The passenger was not located.
The driver was an 18-year-old Hispanic male from Harvey. He was complaining of general pain from the vehicle crash and was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he was later medically cleared. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains at this time. The suspect’s name is being withheld until he is formally charged.
