Saturday Morning Shooting Now Homicide
On October 12, 2024, at approximately 6:04 AM, Gary Police Officers were dispatched for a call for service reference shots fired in the area of 300 Calhoun St, in Gary.
Officers arrived in the area and located a male subject down near the east alley of 300 Calhoun Street. The male appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the body.
Officers checked the unknown male who was unresponsive. Gary Fire Department arrived on scene and advised the male had no signs of life. At that time Lake County Coroners Office was dispatched as well as Lake County Sheriff’s CSI to process the scene. Lake County Prosecutors Homicide Task Force arrived on scene as well.
The deceased male was later identified as Joseph Harris, a 63 year old male from Gary. The Coroner has ruled the death a homicide.
