Schererville Man Charged In Auto Theft & Other Thefts
On March 20th, 2022 at approximately 10:32 PM, the Cedar Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 7100 blk of W. 135th Ave for a report of a stolen Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which also contained many tools, according to Deputy Chief Carl Brittingham.
On March 25th, 2022 the stolen Chevrolet pickup truck was recovered in Lake Station by the Lake Station Police Department. The owner later found items inside his truck that did not belong to him. This information and an investigation led by Brittingham identified Jonathan Fink a 30 year old from Schererville as the suspect in the theft of a motor vehicle. Additional investigations revealed Jonathan Fink was wearing a court-ordered GPS monitoring device and placed him at the location of the stolen pickup truck at the date and time it was stolen. The GPS monitoring device worn by Jonathan Fink also placed him at the location the stolen pickup truck was recovered in Lake Station at that date and time.
In addition, it is believed Jonathan Fink was visiting a known drug-related location within Cedar Lake, which has been the location of several recent arrests and investigations, Brittingham added.
On March 30th, 2022 Jonathan Fink was formally charged in the Lake County Superior Court with Theft of a motor vehicle a level 6 felony, Theft a level 6 felony, and Criminal Mischief a class A misdemeanor. Jonathan Fink is currently wanted on a warrant for his arrest through the Lake County Superior Court.
The Cedar Lake Police Department is continuing to investigate other locations visited by Jonathan Fink during the time he was in possession of the stolen vehicle.
