Schererville Police Pursue Semi That Crashed Into A Dozen Cars

On Thursday August 8, 2024, at approximately 4:15 PM, Schererville Police were dispatched to a threatening call, according to Commander Kevin Wagner of the Schererville Police. Officers were advised that the suspect had threatened serious bodily harm to the complainant. The suspect was believed to be traveling westbound on US 30 near Cline Ave in a white Volvo semi-truck.

Officers located the semi-truck on US 30, traveling westbound near Austin Ave. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to get the semi to stop, but it continued westbound on US 30 and eventually northbound on US 41. The semi came to a brief stop at US 41 and Parker Place due to heavy traffic. Officers were able to put down stop sticks and attempted to get the driver out of the vehicle at this time, but he continued northbound on US 41.

The semi-truck ran into multiple vehicles on US 41 including a Schererville Police Durango. Officers were eventually able to get the suspect in custody on US 41, north of Main St.

One of the drivers of the vehicles that were struck by the semi told RNS, “The damage to my vehicle seems to be minor but this was very traumatic. I am mentally and physically exhausted. It’s weird driving away from something like this not knowing how/why it happened.”

The suspect was then transported to a local hospital to be treated for his wounds. Two other people were also transported for injuries.

This is still an ongoing investigation with multiple crash reports that need to be completed. The Schererville Detective Bureau will be presenting multiple charges to the Lake County Prosecutors Office on the driver of the vehicle tomorrow.
