Search Continues At Portage Riverwalk For Missing Teen

Indiana Conservation Officers confirm that the body of the missing juvenile in Lake Michigan has been located.

At approximately 11:12 a.m. (CT), a diver with Portage Fire Department located the victim in 7 feet of water near the Portage Riverwalk break wall.

This incident is still under investigation, and additional details will be released as they become available.

Indiana Conservation Officers have resumed the search for an Illinois teen who went missing yesterday in Lake Michigan near Portage Riverwalk in Portage.

Responders were dispatched to the area near the riverwalk due to five people being in distress as a result of strong rip currents in the area. 

Four of the five people were removed from the water and transported to area hospitals. One teen is still missing in the water.

Responders searched the area into the night before suspending operations. The search resumed this morning and will continue throughout the day.

Agencies assisting on scene include Indiana Conservation Officers, United States Coast Guard, Porter Fire Department, Burns Harbor Fire Department, Portage Fire Department, Portage Police Department, Ogden Dunes Fire Department, and Lake County Marine unit.
