Search For Driver of Submerged Car Unsuccessful In Dyer

On November 20, 2024 at approximately 5:47 PM, the Dyer Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the 800 block of Flagstone Drive following reports of a vehicle submerged in a nearby waterway.

Upon dispatch, the Dyer Fire Department initiated a water rescue response, enlisting assistance from the MABAS 207 Dive Team to assist in locating the vehicle’s driver. Firefighters, police officers, and dive team personnel conducted a thorough search of the waterway and surrounding areas. The Lake County Sheriff Helicopter was also utilized to search the water.

As of 9:45 PM, the driver of the vehicle has not been located. The Dyer Police Department is continuing the investigation as a missing person case.

Nearby residents told RNS the driver of the vehicle was making a delivery when the car started rolling into the pond. A resident said a camera caught the man running after the car but did not see him return the same way.
