Second Man Dies In Gary Shooting Wednesday
On July 1, 2020 approximately 3:11 PM the Gary Police Department responded to a call for a gunshot victim in the area of 1500 Cleveland Street, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield of The Gary Police. Upon Officers arrival they were told that a male had been shot but he was no longer on scene. Shortly after officers received information the male gunshot victim had been dropped off at the hospital. Officers proceeded to the hospital and located a 30-year-old male black (Gary) with a gunshot wound. The male was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The Lake County Coroner has identified the victim as Steven Rice, 30, of Gary.
On July 1, 2020 approximately 6:40pm the Gary Police Department responded to a call for a gunshot victim in the 1800 block of Taney Place, Westerfield stated. Upon officers arrival they observed a male black with multiple gunshot wounds. The 18-year-old male black (Lynwood ,IL) was transported to the hospital where he was later declared deceased.
