Semi Rollover Congests Region Roads Friday

Friday morning at 4:52 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to I-65 NB north of 61st Ave. for a semi rollover, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield.

Upon their arrival, troopers discovered a 2012 Nissan Sentra had been struck by a semi tractor-trailer.  The semi then drove into the east ditch where it overturned.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Ryan Parent revealed that the semi may have sustained a flat tire prior to leaving the roadway and striking the Nissan.  The Nissan had been abandoned earlier and was unoccupied.

The crash caused extensive backups and delays all morning and into the afternoon, with the scene finally being cleared at 1:45 p.m., Fifield said. The semi, operated by Stron Logistics, was loaded with grocery freight.  The driver, Willie C. Evans, 34, from Pingree Grove, IL, was transported to Northlake Hospital in Gary for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  Assisting at the scene was Bert’s Towing, Hobart Fire, INDOT and Superior Ambulance.
